You can also identify an emotion and find the associated element (see 5-Rhythm Emotions Charts and 5-Rhythm series DVD) and then hold the corresponding elemental neurovascular. For example, if you are working with someone who is feeling is hopelessness and feels like "giving up", you will find these emotions associated with the Spleen Meridian and the Earth element so holding the Earth elemental neurovascular points will balance these emotions. This is a great technique to use on yourself or someone else.
